The Shop

The Chepstow Mencap charity shop is a very popular asset for the people who use it, and a valued way for the local community to help us to raise our much needed funds.  Situated in Bulwark Road, Chepstow NP16 5JW, it offers a wide range of goods from clothes for women, men and children, china to books, plus jewellery, accessories and bricabrac, with the stock constantly changing.

Individuals that we support can spend half a day working in the shop, developing their skills in all the areas that a retail setting needs.  This involves:

·         Sorting, preparing and storing donations from the public
·         Labelling the goods for sale
·         Displaying goods and keeping the shop clean and tidy
·         Serving customers and handling money, learning how to use the till
·         Assisting in record keeping and cashing up

The aim is for people to move on if they want to, and work as volunteers in other shops, eventually gaining enough experience to work in a paid retail job.  The shop is open from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

We are always grateful for any good quality items that we can sell in the shop – please call us on 01291 769054 or call into the shop during opening hours.  We politely request you do not leave donations outside, due to the fact it causes obstructions to our neighbours.

The shop also has stocks of the red and purple recycling bags issued by Monmouthshire County Council, so if you run short, pop in to see us and have a browse at the same time!
